Kia Tasman

The Kia Tasman is Kia’s inaugural entry into the mid-size pickup truck segment, designed to compete with established models like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux. Developed with significant input from Kia Australia, the Tasman is tailored for markets such as Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and the Middle East, with production commencing in 2025 .

Performance and Powertrain

The Tasman offers two engine options:​

• A 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 277 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque.

• A 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine delivering 207 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.​

Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic, with configurations available in rear-wheel and four-wheel drive. The Tasman boasts a towing capacity of up to 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs) and a payload capacity exceeding 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs) .​

Design and Features

Built on a body-on-frame chassis, the Tasman features a rugged exterior with Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy. The interior is equipped with a triple-screen layout, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 5-inch climate control display. Additional amenities include dual wireless charging pads, a Harman Kardon audio system, and a foldable center console that doubles as a workspace .

Off-Road Capabilities

For off-road enthusiasts, the Tasman X-Pro variant offers enhanced features such as 17-inch all-terrain tires, an electronically locking rear differential, and a 1.1-inch suspension lift providing 9.5 inches of ground clearance. This model is also capable of fording water depths up to 32 inches .​

Market Availability

The Kia Tasman is slated for release in markets including South Korea, Australia, Africa, and the Middle East. As of now, there are no confirmed plans for its introduction in North America .​
